NORFOLK — Rives C. W. Hitch, 79, of 603 Hague Park Apartments, chairman of the 
board of HIPAGE Co., Inc., custom brokers, died Friday in his home.
A native of Hamilton, N.C., he was the husband of Mrs. Margaret Lee Hitch.
He had been in the shipping business since 1920. He was general manager of 
States Marine Lines from 1933 to 1965, and a director of Atlantic Ship Agency. 
He was a former director of the Maritime Association.
He was a member of Old St Paul's Episcopal Church, where he was on the vestry as 
junior warden and was chairman of the church endowment fund.
Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Fitchett of Norfolk and 
Mrs. Elisabeth Lee Hall of Virginia Beach; and a sister, Mrs. Pinckney Payne of 
Norfolk.
A funeral service will be held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in Old St. Paul’s Episcopal 
Church by the Rev. Walton W. Davis. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, with H. 
D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk, in charge.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the endowment fund of Old St. 
Paul's Episcope Church.
