NORFOLK — Mrs. Mabel Wormington Hitchings, of 115 E. 41st St., the widow of 
Vernon Davis Hitchings and the mother of Traffic Court Judge Vernon D. Hitchings 
Jr., died Monday morning in a hospital.
A native of Norfolk, she was a member of Freemason Street Baptist Church, the 
Sunshine Circle of the King's Daughters, and a lifetime honorary member and past 
president of the Colonial Place Garden Club.
She also was an honorary member of Alpha Iota Music Sorority and a past member 
of the Virginia Poetry Society.
Besides her son, survivors include three grandchildren; and two nephews.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in H. D. Oliver Funeral 
Apartments by Dr. William L. Lumpkin and the Rev. Sidney Quong. Burial will be 
in Elmwood Cemetery.
