A native of Roanoke, he had lived in Norfolk 52 years. He was president and treasurer of the R. W. Whitehurst Manufacturing Corp., manufacturers of agricultural implements. He was the son of the late Charles Holmes and Mrs. Maude Nelms Hix, and the husband of Mrs. Ethel Tilton Hix. He was a graduate of the class of 1916 of the Virginia Military Institute. Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Frances Sterett Darrell; two grandsons, Charles Holmes Darrell and Richard Cavendish Darrell, all of Ruxton, Md.; one brother, Preston Flood Hix of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Mrs. Norborne Lewis Rawlings of Warwick, and Miss Frances Payne Hix of Norfolk; one niece and one nephew. The body will be taken from the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments to the Selden Chapel, Christ and St. Luke's Church, tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. for funeral services conducted by the Rev. Peyton R. Williams, rector. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. It is requested that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the special memorial fund of Norfolk General Hospital.
