Virginian-Pilot September 17, 1938
Mrs. Carrie Lee Hobgood, aged 82, widow of Benjamin Fontaine Hobgood and 
daughter of John S. and Mrs. Mary Godwin White, former resident of Gloucester 
County, and for the past 33 years a resident of Norfolk, died at 6:30 o'clock 
yesterday morning at her residence, 727 Virginia avenue, Colonial Place. Mrs. 
Hobgood was a member of the Park Avenue Baptist Church and for many years was a 
teacher in the Sunday school. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Andrew J. 
West, of Norfolk; a granddaughter, Mrs. James E. Ward, Jr., of Clemson, S.C., 
and several nieces.
Funeral services will be held at the chapel of the H. D. Oliver Funeral 
Apartments, 1501 Colonial avenue, tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. 
Fred A. Bobbitt, pastor of the Park Avenue Baptist Church, officiating. 
Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
