He was a native of Greensberg, Pa., and the son of Frederick Eugene Sr. and Madeline Anderson Hobson . He was the husband of Alberta V. Hobson . Mr. Hobson fellowshipped at Bethlemen Baptist Church. He attended the Norfolk Division of Virginia State College and completed his undergraduate studies at Virginia State College, now University. He earned his master's degree from Columbia University, New York. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He held life memberships in the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., Lambda Omega Chapter, and the National Education Association. He was a founding member of the Fountainhead Club. Mr. Hobson worked for 10 years at the Norfolk Division of Virginia State College and began his teaching career at Crestwood High School. He continued in public schools and taught for more than 20 years at Ruffner Junior High School in the Norfolk Public Schools until retirement. He will be sorely missed by his devoted wife of 53 years, Alberta V. Hobson ; three sons, Frederick Eugene and his wife, Victoria, Albert C. Hobson , and retired Lt. Col. James Michael Hobson and his wife, Shirley; a brother, George Brown; a sister, Jennie Johnson; two uncles, Dubois Hobson and Lloyd Hobson . He will also be missed by two aunts, Loraine Hobson and Mariah Crawford; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral will be conducted Thursday in Bethelehm Baptist Church at noon with the Rev. H. Bernard Branch officiating. Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Riddick Funeral Service. The Omega Psi Phi memorial service will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends afterward.
