The New York, Philadelphia and Norfolk railroad steamer, Old Point Comfort, which arrived here yesterday morning, brought the remains of a white man which had been found floating in Hampton Roads between Old Point and Craney Island. The body was put on the wharf and the coroner, Dr. E. V. Newton, was notified. The coroner, after viewing the remains decided that an inquest was unnecessary and issued a certificate for burial. The body had been in the water a long time and was very much disfigured. A search of the clothing revealed the fact that the remains were those of Captain Thad. Hodges, of the schooner Two Brothers, which it is supposed was lost during the gale of the 6th and 7th. The only thing by which the body could be identified was a receipt from T. R. Cooke & Co. to Thaddeus Hodges, of the sloop Two Brothers, which was made out in February. In addition to the receipt, there was found in a pocketbook in one of his pockets $25.60, most of which was in paper and badly damaged. Part of the money was paid to Mr. C. B. Oliver for the necessary expenses of burying the body, which will be done today.
