NORFOLK - Mark William Hodges, 42, of the 3300 block of Creekwood Road, died March 
20, 2009. He was born in Norfolk, the son of Joan Grillo Hodges and James William 
Hodges. Mark graduated from Norfolk Catholic High School. He also attended 
Tidewater Community College, Radford University and was a graduate of Old Dominion 
University with a degree in finance. Mark worked in commercial real estate and 
construction. He was a member of the Virginia Beach Exchange Club.

Mark was an avid duck hunter, athlete and extreme skier. In addition to skiing, 
Mark excelled in surfing, football, water polo and various other sports-related 
activities. Mark was also an artist and musician, he loved music and started 
playing the drums at the age of 5. He also traveled extensively and loved to cook. 
Mark was a kind, generous person who loved animals, especially his Yellow Lab, 
Hannah.

Mark was preceded in death by his father, James W. Hodges and his paternal 
grandparents, Tony and Esther Grillo. Survivors include his mother, Joan Grillo 
Hodges; an aunt, Diana Gilbert and her husband Charles of Chesapeake; and a 
cousin, Toni Haddix and her husband Chase of North Carolina. Mark is also survived 
by his extended family and many, many friends.

A memorial service will be held at the Norfolk Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral 
Apartments Thursday at 1 p.m. by Father Jay Wagner. Following the service, the 
family will be gathering at the home of Joan Hodges. Online condolences may be
