A native of Saltillo, Pa., he lived in Norfolk 49 years. He was a member of Lafayette Presbyterian Church, Charity Masonic Lodge 10, Knights of Pythias and American Legion Post 67. He was a Navy veteran of World War I. He was a 45-year retired employee of Powers & Anderson Surgical Instrument Co. Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Philip G. Hoffman Jr. and Walter C. Hoffman of Greensboro, N.C, and Charles Herbert Hoffman of Norfolk; a brother, Anton R. Hoffman of Altoona, Pa.; a sister, Mrs. Gemma Long of Huntingdon, Pa.; and five grandchildren. A funeral service will be held in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home Monday at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery with Pythian rites.
