R. J. HOGGARD FALLS FROM A SCAFFOLD AND DIES FROM HIS INJURIES. An accident occurred at Ocean View about 8:30 o'clock yesterday morning which resulted in the almost instantaneous death of Mr. Richard J. Hoggard, of Charles street, Brambleton ward. The unfortunate gentleman, who was a carpenter by trade, while at work on the new theatre building at Ocean View, fell from the scaffold on which he was standing, a distance of 40 or 50 feet to the ground, and died in a very few minutes thereafter. As soon as the accident occurred, a telephone message brought Dr. Charles A. Saunders to the scene in a very few minutes thereafter, on a special car sent out by the railroad company, but death had ensued before his arrival. He examined the body and found that Mr. Hoggard's pelvis was badly injured and that his jaw, shoulder blade and left arm were broken. Death probably resulted from shock. The remains were turned over to Justice of the County and an inquest was held. The verdict of the jury being accidental death. Later the remains were taken to the home of the deceased. The deceased was a hard-working mechanic and was much respected in the community. He leaves a widow and two children.
