Holahan died Aug. 4, 2011 in Norfolk. He was born in Norfolk Feb. 1, 1916. Tom's parents were John Joseph Holahan and Katherine Cummings Holahan. His brother, John Joseph Holahan Jr., died in 1986. The themes of Tom's life were faith and longevity. He lived in Norfolk his entire life and was a lifelong parishioner at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. After graduation from Maury High School, he had only one civilian employer, W.M. Reay & Company. He served in the United States Army during and immediately after World War II. Tom enjoyed independence until late in life. He played golf and was a fan of opera and good cafeteria food. After his midday meal, he liked to stroll through Norfolk Botanical Gardens. Tom was courteous and patient and those with whom he spent time responded in kind. He deeply appreciated the attention shown him by his friends at Province Place of DePaul, Seniorcorp and Blessed Sacrament. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Joseph Metzger officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 600 Newport Ave., Norfolk, VA 23505. H. D.
