She was born in the Protestant Hospital, later Sentara Norfolk General, Nov. 6, 1921, and delivered by Dr. Burnley Lankford. Bette was the daughter of William M. and Beatrice Forrest Griffith and the widow of Edward M. "Ned" Holbrook. She was predeceased by sisters, Frances G. Edenfield and Ann G. Anderson; also a brother, Albert L. Griffith. She is survived by a daughter, Frimet Holbrook; nieces, Vikki Josselyn, Dana Johnson; two nephews, John N. Edenfield and wife, Carol, and Leonard E. Bendall. She leaves three great- nieces, four great-nephews and several great-great-nephews. Her interests, memberships and volunteerism were varied, none the least her time spent at Humana, later Sentara Bayside Hospital. She was a January 1940 graduate of Maury High School, attended William & Mary Division, and for many years she and Ned enjoyed Elderhostels all over the U.S. and Canada. She loved her family and friends unconditionally and was full of kindness, generosity and love. Her strong faith and moral character led her in life's journey. God blessed her with a creative spirit and she shared that with so many. She was a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. A memorial celebration of life will be held at St. Gregory's Monday, June 13, at 11:30 a.m., after which there will be a gathering in the Terrace Room at Marian Manor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the American Heart Association or to the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters or the Foodbank of Hampton Roads.
