Vic passed away at home on Sunday, November 20, 2022, with his loving wife beside him. He was the son of the late Era Eugene Holland, Sr. and Lotte Jaenchen Holland. He is predeceased by his brother, Era Holland, Jr. and sisters Ingrid Sierra and Heidi Doane. He attended and remained dedicated to The Patterson School for Boys in Lenoir, North Carolina. It was here that his love of the mountains was born and where he built lifelong relationships. His experiences here helped shape the person he became - kind, loving, generous and topped with a witty sense of humor. He attended annual reunions as often as possible. Vic enjoyed a 40-year career at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He began working during his summers in high school as a refuse collector; and, with additional education, advanced through multiple positions, retiring as a cardiovascular technician after managing the CVS Lab for the Heart Hospital. Vic developed long lasting friendships with his co-workers who were all family to him. Vic loved sports, playing football, soccer, and softball through the years. He shared his passion with others, stepping up to coach his children's youth teams and the adult softball teams he partook in. He even picked up the hobbies of his family and friends, diving headfirst into biking and golf. These two sports minimized the challenge of competition and opened a wider door for fun and the joy of deepening friendships. Vic was a "foodie" who loved to cook, bake and grill. He reveled in sharing his creations with friends and family. At gatherings, Vic always jumped at the chance to tell a story or two. He had a million stories of his own and never missed an opportunity to ask questions that could draw out a story from others in the group. He often took advantage of his naturally green thumb, enjoying all varieties of horticulture. More recently, Vic developed a proclivity for nurturing many variations of Japanese maples. As his beautiful gardens matured, Vic took great pleasure in sharing their beauty with visitors, touring them around while sharing funds of knowledge about each plant. In recent months, Vic spent hours peacefully sitting on his porch, communing with the natural beauty he'd drawn out of the backyard. Vic was never idle. He welcomed the challenge to educate himself, taking pride tackling a vast array of first-time projects such as building sheds, laying a driveway, remodeling bathrooms and installing windows, siding, and fences. Vic enjoyed sharing his wood-working talents with his kids by crafting a toy chest and baby doll cradle. Vic was a beloved member of Episcopal Church of the Ascension, assisting with youth group programs and participating in various activities such as Pig Pickings and softball. Left to cherish Vic's memory are his loving wife of 35 years, Margaret White Holland, sons, Joshua White and Victor Holland, daughter, Emily Holland, granddaughter, Teiyana White, sister, Sandi (Tony) Daniels, sisters-in-law, Helen White, Maureen White, SNDdeN, Cecelia White, Jesse (Jimmy) Gagne, Jean (John) Partain, Rose (Donald) Kennedy, and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. A celebration of Vic's life will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 405 Talbot Hall Rd, Norfolk, VA 23505. Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. with funeral service at 11:15 a.m., followed by a reception at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Vic's name to the American Cancer Society or the American Red Cross.
