NORFOLK — Robert Dunlap Holland, 71, of 1030 N. Lexan Crescent, retired 
assistant city attorney of Norfolk, died Friday in a hospital.
A native of Norfolk, he was the husband of Mrs. Gladys Matthews Holland.
Holland retired from the office, which he held since 1955, in May 1969. Two 
months earlier, he had announced to run for clerk of Corporation Court, and, if 
elected, cut his salary $5,000 to be distributed among clerk's office employees.
He withdrew from the race for "personal consideration," he said.
Holland was a member of the Virginia State Bar since 1926. Before joining the 
clerk's office in 1955. He had been a law enforcement officer with the federal 
government for 10 years.
He was a member of the Norfolk & Portsmouth Bar Association, Larchmont Methodist 
Church, Norfolk Yacht and Country Club, and Elizabeth River Power Squadron.
Besides his widow, survivors include a daughter, Mrs. J. M. Eggleston of 
Seabrook, Tex., a son, Robert D. Holland Jr. of Annandale, two sisters, Mrs. A. 
L Foster of Norfolk and Mrs. Roy G. Buck of Largo, Fla., a brother, Edward T. 
Holland of Arlington, six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
A funeral service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. in H. D. Oliver Funeral 
Apartments by the Rev. William D. Parrish. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery
The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorial donations sent to the 
American Cancer Association.
