Norfolk Virginian Pilot September 6, 1941

Michael Joseph Holland, aged 50, husband of Mrs. Mary Downing Holland and son of 
Mrs. Catherine Driessell Holland and the late Michael Joseph Holland, died at 
the U.S. Veterans Facility, at Kecoughtan, yesterday afternoon at 5 o'clock. Mr. 
Holland was a native of County Cork, Ireland and a resident of Norfolk for the 
past 35 years, residing at 1331 Raleigh Avenue at the time of his death. He was 
a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church; Norfolk Council 367, Knights of 
Columbus; Police Fire Post 120, American Legion, of Norfolk and Neponset Court 
180, Massachusetts Catholic Order of Foresters. Besides his wife, Mrs. Mary 
Downing Holland, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Catherine Driessell Holland, 
of Ireland; one brother, Daniel Holland, of Ireland and a  sister Mrs. Jerry 
O'Brien, of Boston.
The body was taken to the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 Colonial Avenue, 
pending arrangements.

Michael Joseph Holland - The body of Mr. Holland, who died Friday afternoon at 
the Veterans Administration Hospital at Kecoughtan, will be taken from the H. D. 
Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 Colonial avenue, Norfolk, to Sacred Heart 
Catholic Church for services tomorrow morning at 10 o’clock. Burial will be in 
St. Mary’s Cemetery. Mr. Holland was a member of the Holy Name Society of Sacred 
Heart Church. Members of Norfolk Council 367, Knights of Columbus, will attend 
rosary services at the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, tonight at 8 o’clock.
