HOLLEY JR. VIRGINIA BEACH - Clifton A. "Alfonzo" Holley Jr., of the 600 block of South Rosemont Road, died Feb. 10, 2005, in a local hospital. A native of Norfolk, he was preceded in death by his mother and father, Clifton Sr. and Martha Wilson Holley and by a younger sister, Beatrice Holley Horace. Mr. Holley was a graduate of St. Joseph's Catholic School. He retired as a gunnery sergeant from the U.S. Marine Corps. While stationed in New York, Alfonzo attended and graduated from The Pratt School of Hat Design. Upon his return from the Marine Corps, Al opened his own hat shop on Charlotte Street, in downtown Norfolk. His talent for hat-making came naturally from his father, "Cliff the Hatter." Al also worked at Consolidated Loan and Littman's Pawn in downtown Norfolk. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Harper Holley; a son, Vincent X. Holley and wife Benita D. Holley; two sisters, Mary Magdalene McInnis of Chicago, Ill., and Martha Raye Harrell (Peter) of Norfolk; two aunts, Willie Holley Roberts and Erma Holley Rogerson; an uncle, Charlie Holley, all of Edenton, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Clarissa Harper Stone (Horace) of Detroit, Mich.; and a granddaughter, Raven. A funeral will be Tuesday at noon in St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, with Father Dorgan presiding. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Graves Funeral Home is in charge. The family will assemble at the residence the day of the service.
