He was 59 years old. He had been a patient at the hospital one week. Funeral services were held Sunday at 1:30 at New Calvary Baptist Church. Elder Samuel A. Wilson, the pastor, officiated. Mr. Hollowell, a native of Elizabeth City, NC, served in World War I. He was a member of New Calvary. He joined Pitts Chapel AMEZ church at an early age. After the death of both parents, Mr. Hollowell came to Norfolk where he lived more than 30 years. He was a member of Rising Sun Lodge No. 2 of Masons. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ethel Hollowell; 3 sisters, Mrs. Minnie White and Mrs. Josephine Shields, Elizabeth City, NC and Mrs. Cora Johnson, Baltimore MD; two brothers, George and Sherman Hollowell, Norfolk; 9 nephews, 11 nieces and other relatives. Relatives from Washington, DC; New York City, Holland, Franklin and Suffolk VA. attended the funeral.
