The Virginian-Pilot, Thursday, January 25, 1990

NORFOLK - Joseph "Julius" Holmes Jr., 64, of the 400 block of W. 26th St., a 
retired civil service stevedore, died January 23, 1990, in a hospital.

Mr. Holmes, a native of Charlestown, S.C., was a member and deacon of C.H. Mason 
Church of God in Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Ella Mac Holmes; three daughters, Rosa L. White of 
Pennsylvania, Vivian Aiken of Virginia Beach and Joe Ann Smith of Norfolk; a 
son, Dennis Holmes of Norfolk; a sister, Viola Richardson of Cross, S.C.; and 
eight grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in C.H. Mason Church of God 
in Christ by Elder David B. Williams. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Family 
and friends will assemble at 12:30 at the residence for the procession. The body 
will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Twilight Funeral Home is handling 
arrangements.
