Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Sunday, December 17, 1995 
Bert Wellington Holmes, of the 5900 block of Tajo Ave., died Dec. 14, 1995, in
his residence.

He was retired from the Lone Star Cement Co. and was a native of Norfolk. He was
a member of New Central Baptist, Norfolk, where he was involved in the usher board.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Hicks Holmes; daughter, Dr. Muriel H. Chasten
of Chesapeake; son, Dr. Bert W. Holmes Jr. of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Reva
Hill of New York City, and Murial Manuel of New York City; three grandchildren,
Christal, Marissa, Bert III; and a host of relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m Monday by Dr. H. Edward Whitaker in
New Central Baptist Church, Norfolk. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery . Pretlow and
Sons Funeral Home is in charge.
