Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Sunday, October 15, 2000 
Nancy C. Holmes of the 1100 block of Gaunlet Drive, died Oct. 12, 2000.

Born in Norfolk, she was the widow of William Holmes and was a retired teacher's
aid for Norfolk Public Schools. She was a member of New Calvary Baptist Church,
Norfolk, Usher Board No. 2, Order of the Eastern Star, Margaret Francis Chapter
No. 101 P.H.A., United Order of the Tents, Beulah Temple No. 4 I.B.P.O. Elks of
the World, Inc., Daughter of Isis Arabian Temple No. 12.

Survivors include two daughters, Verona M.H.J. Rachal of Chesapeake, Thelma
L.H.H. Murray of Washington, D.C.; two sons, William Baylor Holmes of Colorado
Springs, Colo., John Bartley Holmes of Portsmouth; a brother, Willie J. Cuffee
of Williamsburg; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; six
great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives
and friends. She was predeceased by a son, Irving Nathaniel Holmes.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday in New Calvary Baptist Church, Norfolk, by
Dr. G.G. Campbell. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . A wake service will be
held today at Granby Street Chapel from 6 to 7 p.m. The body will lie in repose
at the church Monday at 9:30 a.m. Family and friends will assemble at 1105
Gaunlet Drive, Chesapeake, at 10 a.m. Monday for funeral procession to the church.
