Virginian Pilot/ Norfolk Landmark May 2, 1916
Miss Carrie Baum Holmes died Sunday morning at 4:35 o’clock. She was 23 years 
of age. Miss Holmes was the daughter of the late Mrs. Annie Midgett and Nelson 
Holmes, and is survived by five sisters, Mrs. J.E. House, Mrs. M.P. Doyle, Mrs. 
L.E. Waller Jr. and Misses Maria and Annie Holmes, and by four brothers, James 
H., John W. , P.D. and Henry Holmes. Funeral Services were conducted yesterday 
afternoon at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, of which she was a member, the Rev. 
M.B. Marshall officiating. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful, 
the casket was covered by a pall of pick roses and ferns. Interment was in 
Cedar Grove
