Virginian-Pilot  April 24 & 26, 1891
Mrs. Elizabeth S. Holmes, a highly esteemed lady, widow of the late Capt. James 
Holmes, died last night at 11:10 at her residence, No. 135 Bute street.

The funeral of Mrs. Elizabeth Stansbury Holmes took place at 9 o’clock a.m., 
Saturday, from St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Rev. Father W. Gaston Payne officiated, 
and the solemn requiem mass was said. The interment took place in St. Mary's 
Cemetery, the following gentlemen acting as pall-bearers: Messrs. George E. 
Bowden, Peter Smith, A. J. Denby, George Glass, William Rodgers, Henry Constable 
and Wm. H. Chapman.
