She was the widow of Edward M. Holmes, feature editor of the Ledger-Star. A native of Washington, Mrs. Holmes was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The high papal honor awarded to her in 1954 was in recognition of her activities in numerous Catholic affairs and organizations, especially the International Catholic Alumnae. She was a daughter of William Anthony and Mrs. Carolyn Pfeifer Ehrmantraut and lived in Norfolk since 1900. She is survived by a son, Dr. Edward M. Holmes Jr., of Atlanta; a sister, Mrs. Townsend Guy of Norfolk; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. The Rosary will be recited in H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments Sunday at 7:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
