Virginian-Pilot  July 8, 1898
The remains of Miss Mary Olivia Holmes, daughter of Captain James A. Holmes, who 
died in Baltimore Tuesday, arrived here yesterday morning via the Bay Line steamer 
and the funeral took place from St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 8:30 o’clock. 
Requiem mass was said by the Rev. Father Frioli, while the Rev. Father Wilson, of 
the Church of the Sacred Heart, was also present. The interment was in St. Mary’s 
Cemetery. The casket was handled by six colored men and the following were the 
honorary pall-bearers: Messrs. C. F. Smith, John J. Samuels, Peter Smith, Isaac 
Boush, John Vermillion and Dr. L. A. Bilisoly.
