Daisy Holmes of 5325 Halter Lane, a native of Norfolk, died Saturday in her 
home.

She had retired from the Norfolk public school system and the department of 
recreation after 20 years. Mrs. Holmes was music accompanist for the Booker T. 
Washington High School choir and was choir director of Metropolitan AMEZ Church. 
She was a graduate of the Juilliard School of Music at Columbia University in 
New York City.

Mrs. Holmes was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Elks Lodge 1-A, United Order 
of Tents, Order of the Eastern Star, American Business Women’s Association, 
Krazy Kats Club and Coriander Social Club.

Survivors include two nieces, Charlina S. Copeland of Indiana and Thomasine S. 
Ward of Cincinnati.

The Funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Metropolitan AMEZ Church by 
the Rev. R. A. Council. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, with Graves Funeral 
Home in charge.

A wake will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today in Metropolitan AMEZ Church. The body 
will be in the church at 9:30 a.m. Thursday. The family will assemble at the 
residence. Memorial donations may be sent to the Metropolitan Restoration Fund, 
Metropolitan AMEZ Church or to the Heart Fund.
