Norfolk Virginian January 28, 1875
OBSEQUIES OF CAPT. J. LEE HOOPER. —  A number of the battle-scarred veterans, 
who had associated with the deceased during the late war, yesterday morning 
attended his funeral from St. Vincent's Hospital. The Rev. O. S Barton, D.D., 
rector of Christ Episcopal Church, officiated at the funeral ceremonies, 
delivering a short but most eloquent and touching address. At its close the 
remains were escorted to the grave by a number of friends, the following 
gentlemen acting as pallbearers, having been old comrades of the deceased: 
Messrs W. A. Todd, G. M. Todd, C. C. Benson, P. Pritchard, Arthur Jakeman, W. S. 
Moore, W. H. Hall.
Thus closes the earthly career of one who, as a citizen and soldier, knew no 
superior, and whose memory will ever be revered by a grateful city.
