The Rev. William Tyree Jr. officiated at the service. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery under direction of Jones Funeral Home. Mr. Hopkins, who lived at 927 Kenton avenue, died March 14 in a hospital. A native of Berkley, he was the son of the late Henry Hopkins and Mrs. Lucy Hopkins. The deceased was a graduate of Virginia State College. He served on a United States agricultural conservation mission to Soviet Russia for two years in the 1930’s. He taught in public schools in Richmond County, Petersburg, and in South Norfolk’s Waterford Elementary School. He retired from the Army Terminal about two years ago after being employed there 20 years. He was a trustee of First Baptist for two decades, a member of Deans Munden Bible class, the church choir, a past exalted ruler of Berkley Elks’ lodge, organizer of the Past Exalted Rulers and Past Daughter Rulers Club and a former Elk grand district deputy. The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Edna Hopkins; and two sisters, Mrs. Lucille Boyd of Elmhurst, NY, and Mrs. Ruth Hazzard of Waterbury, CT.
