Michael J. Horenstein, 88, died July 23, 2003, in a Virginia Beach hospital.
Mr. Horenstein was born in Baltimore, MD, and was the son of the late Pessie Korel
Korel Horenstein and Abraham Horenstein. Mr. Horenstein was predeceased in 
death by his sister, Gertrude H. Wolman; his two brothers, Ellis Horenstein and 
Phillip Horenstein; and his granddaughter, Ryan Paige Segal.
He was the owner and operator of Mike's Colley Delicatessen in Norfolk for 39 
years and was known as "The Mayor of Colley Avenue." He was a member of B'Nai 
Israel Synagogue in Norfolk, Brith Sholom Lodge, Chesapeake Bay Ambassador 
Ltd., Consolvo Tent of Saints and Sinners and the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Hadassah Horenstein of Virginia 
Beach; his two daughters, Ronnie H. Yancey and her husband Walt of Virginia 
Beach and Gayle H. Tedford of Holt, MI.; his son Dr. Martin Horenstein and his 
wife Lucy of Richmond, VA; his sister, Dora H. Popkin of Rockville, MD; and his 
grandchildren, Sharon Horenstein, Wendy Yancey, Andrew Yancey and Scott Tedford
Tedford; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held today at 11 a.m. in H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts, Norfolk 
Chapel, by Rabbi Dr. Aaron Baer with burial in B'Nai Israel Cemetery, Norfolk. 
The family will be at the home of Ronnie and Walt Yancey, 801 Greentree Arch, 
Virginia Beach, VA 23451.
Mike may be gone, but his stories will be remembered and retold.
