Hosier, 86, of 5625 Shenandoah Ave., died Sunday in a hospital. A native of Norfolk, he had moved back to Norfolk six months ago. He retired from the Charlotte Observer. He was national safety director emeritus for Travelers Protective Association of America and was a prominent national speaker in the field of engineering safety. In 1953 he received the Outstanding Citizen Award from the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce. He was active in local and state politics and civic affairs during the 20s and 30s. He was a published author and a supporter of the Ocean Hiway Association. Survivors include his former wife, Mrs. Nannie L. Hosier of Virginia Beach; two daughters, Mrs. Lois Hosier Ziegler of Norfolk and Mrs. Beverly Hosier Fitzgerald of Virginia Beach; seven grandchildren; and seven great- grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk, has charge. The family suggests memorials to the Tidewater Association for Retarded Citizens, 906 Ingleside Road.
