Hosier, Sr., one of Norfolk's oldest citizens, died at the home of his son, W.J. Hosier, Jr., 260 Holt street, at 5:35 o'clock yesterday afternoon. The deceased was a native of Norfolk, where he had resided all of his life, and was well known and highly esteemed in the community. For a number of years his vocation was that of a huckster in the city market, but owing to the gradual decline in his health he retired from the business some seven or eight years ago. He was a Confederate veteran and served in Mahone's Brigade throughout the war. He was in the eighty-third year of his age and was born April 26, 1829. He was a consistent member of Centenary M.E. Church. His wife preceded him to the grave seven years ago. He has been a member of Harmony Lodge No. 19, I.O.O.F., since May 10, 1865. He is survived by two sons, W.J. Hosier, Jr. and Charles S. Hosier and the following grandchildren: W.J., Walter G. and Robert L. Hosier; Miss Doris Hosier, Miss Florence Hosier, and Miss Virginia Hosier, all of Norfolk. The funeral will be held from the residence of his son, 260 Holt street, at 4 o'clock Monday afternoon and will be conducted by Rev. John W. Shackford, of Centenary M.E. Church.
