She was born Dec. 7, 1910, in Norfolk. She was the daughter of the late Benjamin Gray Tunstall, former longtime treasurer of the City of Norfolk, and Mary Franklin Duncan Tunstall. She was a past member of the Princess Anne Country Club where she enjoyed many years of bridge with her friends. She loved ballroom dancing and her spirit shined brightest on the dance floor where she competed into her 80s. Mrs. Hottel was a devoted Navy wife whose first husband, Capt. Alfred Pace Randolph, took her to many ports of call, including Honolulu, Hawaii, Bremerton, Wash., Newport, R.I., and Annapolis, Md. Upon his retirement, they settled in Virginia Beach in the late 1940s in one of the early homes built in Cavalier Park on Avenue C Extended, which is now known as Bay Colony Drive. Martin Perry Hottel with whom she resided on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., before returning to her home in Virginia Beach in the 1960s. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Elmwood Cemetery in Norfolk. Memorial donations may be made to the Mary's Garden Committee - maintenance fund.
