The Norfolk Virginian Pilot Saturday January 22, 1944
James Darian Howard, Jr., 32, died at his home, 200 Poplar avenue, Berkley, 
yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock after a sudden illness.
He was a lifelong resident of Berkley where his family had lived for 
generations. He was a son of James Darian Howard, Sr., and the late Nannie 
Bernard Howard, who died a few weeks ago, and husband of Mrs. Elizabeth Jones 
Howard. He also is survived by a son, James Darian Howard, 3d.
He was a very active member of the First Congregational Christian Church, which 
his forefathers helped charter in Berkley. He conducted an insurance and real 
estate business on West Berkley avenue in the name of J.D. Howard, Jr.
He was a member of Doric Lodge No. 44, A.F. & A.M. Funeral services will be 
conducted in the residence Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock and burial will be 
in the family plot in Magnolia Cemetery.
