Norfolk Virginian Pilot Sunday October 17, 1943
Mrs. Lydia Proctor Howell, age 84, died at her residence 1203 Chesapeake avenue, 
South Norfolk, yesterday morning at 9:20 o'clock after a long illness.  She was 
a daughter of the late Ambrose and Harriett Proctor.
Mrs. Howell was a native of Perquimans County, N.C. and had made her home in 
this section for the past 43 years.  She was the widow of James E. Howell.  She 
is survived by three daughters, Mrs. G.W. Forehand and Mrs. Charles Davis, both 
of South Norfolk and Mrs. C.W. Turner, of Norfolk; one step-daughter, Mrs. Ruth 
Holmes, Edenton, N.C; one son, K.B. Howell, South Norfolk; one sister, Mrs. 
Johnnie Ward, Edenton, N.C; one brother, Andrew Proctor, Washington, N.C; eight 
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  Mrs. Howell was a member of the 
South Norfolk Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Francis 
A. Gay Funeral Home, Ohio and Rodgers streets, South Norfolk.  Interment will be 
in Riverside Memorial Park.
