Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Monday, November 22, 1999 
James F. Howell, 66, of the 900 block of S. Quail St., died Nov. 18, 1999, in
Sentara Leigh Hospital.

He was a native of Williamston, N.C., and son of the late James and Katie Evans
Howell and husband of Susie Hunter Howell. Mr. Howell was a member of Mount
Gilead Baptist Church, its Deacon Board, No. 3 Usher Board, Sunday School and
Bible Study. He attended Norfolk State College and served in the Korean War. He
was employed as a longshoreman and retired after 26 years of service. He was a
member of ILA 1248.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Esther Howell of Norfolk,
Gloria Howell of Durham, N.C.; two sons, Jeffrey Howell of Charlotte, N.C.,
Walter Howell of Norfolk; grandson, Aaron Howell of Durham; a sister, Thelma
Rouse of Williamston, N.C.; two brothers, Edward Howell of Baltimore, Billy
Evans of El Paso, Texas; an aunt, Ruth Spence of Baltimore; and three special
friends, Henry Griffin, Louis Lee, both of Chesapeake, and the Rev. H.N. Wiggins
of Norfolk.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Wednesday in Mount Gilead Baptist Church by
the Rev. E.H. Whitley. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . The body will be
taken from Peebles Funeral Home to the church at 10 a.m.
