Virginian-Pilot, Wednesday, October 17, 1900

A colored brakeman named Chick Howett, aged 40 years, was crushed to death while 
coupling cars in the Norfolk and Western freight yards Monday night. The body was 
taken to the city morgue yesterday morning. The remains were interred in calvary 
Cemetery yesterday.
