Virginian-Pilot April 13, 1907
After having been in the water for a month, the drowned body of Joshua Howlett, 
40 years old, of Clay Bank, Gloucester county, this State, was found floating 
near Thimble Shoals lighthouse, in the bay, yesterday, by Captain C. T. Cole, of 
the schooner Widgeon.
The body, which was somewhat decomposed, was quickly identified by several men 
on Roanoke dock who knew Howlett. Howlett was single.
The drowned man was a watchman on an oyster boat over on the eastern shore of 
the State. He was in a small boat, which was swept out into the bay, where he 
was drowned. The coroner, who investigated the case, said there were no marks of 
violence on the body.
A message has been sent to the relatives of the dead man, and the body is being 
held for them.
