She was one of the best known and most highly esteemed residents of the ward. She was a very active and substantial member of the First Christian Church, Main street, where she had been a member more than forty-three years. She was identified with all the societies of the church and was philanthropic in response to calls from the less fortunate of the community. She came to Berkley more than forty-three years ago as a bride of the late Wilson W. Hozier, who died about a score of years ago. Their only children -- two sons--who also died more than twenty years ago. Her nearest surviving kin are two nephews, J.T and J.A. Harrell, of Cypress Chapel, Nansemond County, her native home, and one stepdaughter, Mrs. E.G. Belote, Jacksonville, Fla. She was a daughter of the late James Benjamine and Nancy Harrell, of Cypress Chapel. Mrs. Hozier owned some of the most valuable property of the ward, a part of which she sold to the city several months ago on which to erect the new police and fire station. The funeral will be conducted at the First Christian Church Tuesday afternoon at 1 o'clock and Rev. H.H. Butler, a former pastor, will in all probability officiate, assisted by other Christian ministers. Interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery. ************************************************************** The funeral of the late Mrs. Martha Ann Elizabeth Hozier, was conducted from the First Christian Church yesterday afternoon at 1 o'clock.
