In the afternoon, John Hozier and Eugene Jefferson, two small white boys, residing on the extension of Chapel street, went out to the Catholic Cemetery. While they were there, the storm came up and they started for home. On their way back they sought protection under a tree near the intersection of the Norfolk Terminal railroad and the Cottage Toll Bridge Road. Jefferson, however, became frightened and again started off, leaving Hozier behind. He had proceeded only a short distance when he was knocked down by a bolt of lightning which struck the tree and killed young Hozier instantly, and tearing his clothing all to pieces. Jefferson's cries attracted the attention of his father, who, on coming up, discovered the dead body of the young boy. The body was taken to the residence of his father, Mr. John Q. Hosier, and the funeral took place yesterday afternoon.
