M. Hudgins The community was shocked last evening to learn of the death of Capt. Louis (sic) M. Hudgins, which sad event occurred yesterday suddenly in Mathews county of, it is supposed, heart disease. Capt. Hudgins had just received the appointment of commander of the Virginia Oyster Navy, and would have entered active service as soon as his vessel, the plans for building which had been submitted to the Board and accepted, could be gotten ready. Capt. Hudgins was formerly assistant superintendent of the Potomac Steamboat Company hence to Washington, D.C., and was a gentleman widely known and admired throughout the country. For many years he sailed the Cuban waters out of Baltimore, and there, as here, was regarded as a good seaman. CONFEDERATE VETERANS The President announced the death on the 21st instant, in Mathews county, Va., of Captain Lewis M. Hudgins, an honored member of the Camp, and appointed Col. Llewellen, Major Pickett, John P. Hall, Esq. and C. A. McCourt a committee to draft suitable resolutions of respect.
