Miss Joyce is expected to arrive in Norfolk this morning at 10 o'clock from New York. Mrs. Hudson resided at 319 Lee street, Berkley. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Laderna Norman Wood, and the widow of Arthur H. Hudson. Miss Joyce was her only surviving child, and was born of her previous marriage to Samuel Upton. She was christened Marguerite Upton, and was born in Berkley. The Uptons moved to Camden County, N. C., about 1900, when Peggy was a small child, and Samuel Upton ran a store and barber shop near Camden Court House for about three years. Then Mr. and Mrs. Upton separated, and Mrs. Upton and her daughter returned to Berkley, where Mrs. Upton remarried and Peggy spent much of her childhood. The body of Mrs. Hudson was removed to the Graham Funeral Home, Jackson and Jefferson streets, South Norfolk, pending funeral arrangements. ******************************************************************* LAST RITES TODAY FOR MRS. HUDSON Private funeral services for Mrs. Dora Selena Upton Hudson, mother of Peggy Hopkins Joyce, former Broadway actress, who died at a local hospital on Sunday, will be held this afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Graham Funeral Home, Jackson and Jefferson streets, South Norfolk. Miss Joyce, accompanied by several friends, arrived from New York yesterday morning and is stopping at the Monticello Hotel. She frequently visited her mother, who resided at 319 Lee street, Berkley. Besides her daughter, Mrs. Hudson is survived by a sister, Mrs. P.E. Price, of Berkley and a brother, Robert B. Wood, of Norfolk. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery. Norfolk Virginian Pilot December 10, 1940 *************************************************************** Attended only by relatives and close friends of the family, funeral services for Mrs. Dora Selena Upton Hudson, mother of Peggy Hopkins Joyce, were conducted yesterday afternoon at the Graham Funeral Home in South Norfolk by the Rev. James Milton McKnight, pastor of the Armstrong Memorial Presbyterian Church. Miss Joyce, who arrived Monday morning after hearing of her mother's death the day before, attended the funeral along with several of her friends who accompanied her from New York. Mrs. Hudson had been ill but two days. The casket was covered with a double end spray of roses, chrysanthemums, gladioli and fern. Many floral offerings were received. Pallbearers were Frank Williamson, Hudson Price, Edward Boykin, Jennings Price, Spratley Price and A. Guard. Burial was in the family plot in Magnolia Cemetery.
