After a long illness the summons from the Heavenly Master came to the home of
James Albert and Martha Hudson, number 9 Lee Street, Douglas Park, Norfolk, VA,
last Friday afternoon, May 11th, about one-thirty, and took away my loving wife,
Martha, to rest from her labors and to receive her reward. I can only say God
knows best and does everything for the best, and I bow in humble submission to
His will and say, sleep, Martha, until the trumpet shall sound and I will meet
you where parting will be no more.

The funeral services were held at the Queen Street Baptist Church, Sunday, May
13th, at one o'clock, Rev. F. W. Williams, pastor, officiating. The body was
laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery.

I cannot find words to express my thanks to the neighbors of Douglas Park and
friends in general, for they were so loyal to us during the long illness. I can
only say: May God of Heaven and Earth continue to bless our friends. I wish to
say to all women that if you wish to join an organization that will care for you
when you cannot care for yourself, join the Queen Esther Court Number Three, A.
O. and Daughters of Jerusalem, and the Phelena Tent No. 24, of which she was a
member. I am deprived of utterance of speech to express my gratefulness to those
loving sisters.
