HUFFMAN DIES AT CITY MISSION Once Woman Of Means Succumbs To Third Stroke Of Paralysis Once a woman of means, enjoying the good things of life and the protection of a loving husband, Mrs. Sarah Huffman, 53 years old, of a prominent family of North Carolina, died the death of a pauper at the City Mission yesterday morning at 11 o'clock of paralysis, after an illness of three weeks. A pathetic story surrounds the death of Mrs. Huffman. She for many years resided at 146 Fenchurch Street, after the death of her husband, who left her a meagre dowry. Recently she has lived with her niece, Mrs. J.W. Smith, at Ocean View. On July 2 Mrs. Smith brought Mrs. Huffman to the City Mission, after she heard Mrs. Ryno, the wife of the Superintendent George S. Ryno, of the City Mission, announce from the Gospel wagon at Church and Main Streets that whoever was without a place to lay his head, whether he had money or friends or employment, might fine shelter in the mission. Mr. Smith brought Mrs. Huffman to the mission where she was cared for until her death. Rev. Dr. Taylor, pastor of the Queen Street Methodist Church, visited Mrs. Huffman and ministered to her spiritual needs. Mrs. Huffman was afflicted with paralysis and was in a helpless and pitiful condition. She never embraced Christianity, although she was a member of the Methodist Church. She experienced a change of heart while at the mission. Dr. Gallup was called in to attend Mrs. Huffman. For several days the woman appeared to be improving, but last Monday she grew weaker and the end came yesterday morning, when she was stricken for the third time with paralysis. Dr. Gallup was at her bedside when she expired. Rev. John E. Wales, cashier of the Merchants' and Mechanics' Bank, visited Mrs. Huffman and took an interest in the woman's case. Mrs. Huffman has a brother, T.O. Onley, in Okisko, N.C., who was telegraphed when his sister died but no response has been received.. Mrs. Huffman was insured in the Virginia Life Insurance Company. The money received from the insurance company will go to defray funeral expenses. Rev. Mr. Wales will conduct the funeral. The remains were turned over to Undertaker Smith by Mrs. J. W. Smith, the dead woman's niece, and will be prepared for burial. *********************************************************** The funeral of Mrs. Sarah Huffman, who died in this city of paralysis Thursday morning, will be held from the apartments of Funeral Director H.C.
