Mrs. Hughes was an honorary member and a former president of Children's Theatre and for many years was a member of the Norfolk Society of the Arts. She was a patron of the Feldman Society, Norfolk Symphony Orchestra and Norfolk Museum. She was a member of Christ and St. Luke's Episcopal Church and a former president of its Women of the Church. During World War II, she was an instructor at the Air Raid Warning Center. She also was a member of Colonial Dames of America, Wednesday Club of Norfolk and the Old Saddle Club. She was educated in private schools and at Western Maryland College and Columbia University. Survivors include a daughter, Caroline Wright Hughes Neal of Danville; a son, Robert Morton Hughes III of Norfolk; and four grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Christ and St. Luke's Episcopal Church by the Rev. James B. Samuel Jr. A private burial will be held in Elmwood Cemetery, with H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk, in charge. Memorial gifts may be made to the Cot Fund of Christ and St. Luke's Episcopal Church or to a favorite charity.
