A native of the Berkley section of Norfolk, he was a son of Mrs. Adeline Hewitt Humphries of Great Bridge and the late James Thomas Humphries and the husband of Mrs. Mary Hudgins Humphries. He was a member of South Norfolk Masonic Lodge 339, a veteran of World War I and a member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 26. Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Clair Upton of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Mrs. V.W. Hall and Mrs. J.E. Batts of Great Bridge; and three grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Francis A. Gay Funeral Home by the Rev. O.D. Poythress. Burial with Masonic rites will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
