NORFOLK - Charles Rone "Lil Charles" Humphrey, 18, of the 400 block of Nicholson 
St., passed away Jan. 4, 2009. He was born Oct. 5, 1990, in Norfolk. He was a 
senior at Maury High School where he was captain of the football team, No. 9 and 
co-captain of the basketball team, No. 24. He received a scholarship to Southern 
Tech and St. Augustine, Raleigh, N.C. Charles was born into Deep Creek Church of 
Christ Disciples.

Lil Charles was the youngest of three siblings and was a respectful, thoughtful 
and caring individual who had never been in trouble. He was a leader and role 
model unknowingly, who just happened to be a star sport player at Maury High 
School. His family grieves and will miss him dearly.

He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Linda F. Humphrey; his father, Charles 
R. Carpenter; his sister, Tiffany A. Humphrey; stepsister, Brianna Parker; 
brother, Keith A. Humphrey; stepbrother, Jameson Parker; a special friend, Rika 
Lewis; grandmother, Gladys H. Puckett; a niece, Zykia J. Humphrey; four aunts, 
Mamie C. Bullock, Daisy B. Miller, Brenda Smith and Lillian R. Carpenter; five 
uncles, Leamon, Alton, Isadore, Linton and Gary Humphrey; and a host of other 
relatives and friends.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Urban Community Church at Park Place 
Baptist Church, 430 W. 31st St. The Rev. Edward J. Haywood will eulogize. 
Interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Norfolk. Family and friends 
will assemble at 483 Nicholson St. one hour prior to the service for the 
procession to the chapel. Condolences may be offered at
