He was born in Currituck County, N.C., and had lived in this section for more than 50 years. He was a son of the late T.C. and Mrs. Mary Frost Humphries. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Annie Humphries; three sisters, Mrs. Joseph P. Bell and Mrs. George Coxon, of Virginia Beach; Mrs. Howard A. Cason, of Portsmouth, one brother, T.F. Humphries of Norfolk. He served for a number of years as assistant superintendent of the Norfolk County and Portsmouth City ferries under the management of Gill and Thomas and was later employed at the Norfolk Navy Yard, until recently when he was elected a justice of the peace from South Norfolk. The funeral will take place from the residence this afternoon at 5 o'clock and will be conducted by the Rev. C.E. Green, pastor of the Chesapeake Avenue Methodist Church, of which he was a consistent member. The burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery. The following will serve as pallbearers: Messrs. Frank Robertson, J.S. Wilson, J.R. Harrell, Henry Wilson, David Allen and Mr. Privett. ****************************************************************************** John Robert Humphries - Funeral services for Mr. Humphries, who died Sunday morning at his home, 51 Poindexter street, South Norfolk, were held at the residence yesterday afternoon at 5 o'clock, Rev. C.E. Green, pastor of the Chesapeake Methodist Church, officiating. Mr. Humphries was justice of the peace of South Norfolk. The attendance at his funeral was large and the floral tributes were beautiful. Burial was in the family lot in Magnolia Cemetery and the pallbearers were Frank Robertson, J.S. Wilson, J.R. Harrell, Henry Wilson, David Allen and Mr. Privott.
