Humphries, wife of T.C. Humphries, the latter engaged in shoe business a number of years in Chestnut street, died yesterday morning very suddenly at the family residence, 20 Walnut street, after an illness of heart trouble. She was ill only about half an hour. The deceased was well known and highly respected. She was perhaps one of the most active women of the community being associated with a large number of the ladies branches of secret orders. She was a native of Orange county, N.Y., but had been a resident of Berkley for 31 years. She was 57 years old. The deceased in addition to being a member of a great many orders was a member of Berkley Avenue Baptist Church. She possessed a large circle of friends. In addition to a husband she is survived by two sons, E.T. and Charlie Humphries and two daughters, Mrs. A.C. Heldt and Mrs. C.O. Steele Funeral announcement will be made later. ************************************************************ The funeral of Mrs. Phebe A. Humphries, who died suddenly at the family residence, 20 Walnut street, Friday morning, was conducted from the residence Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock and was very largely attended. Rev. W.A. Smith, pastor of the Berkley Avenue Baptist Chruch, officiated and the interment was in Magnolia cemetery. Goodwill Council No. 5 D. of A., of which the deceased was an honored member, attended in a body. The floral tributes were pretty and numerous. The pallbearers were: S.D. Martin, Edward Steele, J.E. Cooper, John Christensen, Caleb West, C.W. Puckett, J.W. Parker and E. Stah.
