Virginian Pilot July 21, 1959 

Mrs. Mary Johnson Humphries, 72, widow of William Humphries and daughter of 
William R. Johnson Sr. and Mary Esty Johnson, died Monday at 2:35 a.m. at a 
Norfolk hospital.
A registered nurse, she was a 1920 graduate of St. Vincent's Hospital School of 
Nursing. She was a lifelong resident of Norfolk.
Surviving are a son, Sgt. John Dye Turner of Portsmouth, N.H.; three nieces, 
Mrs. Madeline Anderson of Oceana, N.J., Mrs. Hester K. Avery of Los Alamos, N.M. 
and Mrs. Martha T. Stone of Oakland, Calif.; two nephews, Joseph M. Johnson of 
Norfolk and Col. Leon G. Lewis of Montgomery, Ala.
The body will be taken from the H.D. Olivier Funeral Apartments to St. Mary's 
Catholic Church for services Thursday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's 
Cemetery. Rosary services will begin at the funeral home Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

HUMPHRIES, MARY JOHNSON - At a local hospital, Monday, July 20, 1959, at 2:35 
a.m., MARY JOHNSON HUMPHRIES, widow of William Humphries and daughter of the 
late William R. and Mary Esty Johnson, in the 73rd year of her age. Remains will 
be taken from the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 Colonial Avenue, to St. 
Mary's Catholic Church for services THURSDAY MORNING at 10 o'clock.  Friends of 
the family are invited to attend.  Interment, St. Mary's Cemetery.
