He was the son of the late Edward and Maggie Wilson Hunter. Deacon Hunter was a native of Norfolk, but later in life moved to New York before making his home in Petersburg. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk and attended Union University in Richmond. He joined the Bank Street Memorial Baptist Church in Norfolk at an early age and later moved his membership to the Abyssinian Baptist Church in New York City, where he was a member of the Deacon Board. Upon moving to Petersburg, he joined the Zion Baptist Church. Deacon Hunter retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 24 years of service as a clerk. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in World War II. He was a member of the Beacon Light Lodge (NU)76, F. & A.M. in New York City and the Medina Temple (NU)19 (A.E.A.O.N.M.S.) Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Mrs. Mary Law Hunter of Petersburg; four nieces, Mrs. Elsie B. Horton of Oakland, Calif., Mrs. Delores Shields, Mrs. Brenda G. Holley and Ms. Deborah R. Gary, all of Norfolk; two nephews, Wayne Law of Richmond and Rufus Holley Jr. of Norfolk; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Ruby Law Price of Petersburg; three brothers-in-law, Carroll Law, Johnny Price, both of Petersburg, and Robert E. Gary of Norfolk; three cousins, Mrs. Juliette Seabreeze, Fletcher Graves, both of Norfolk, and Gert Lee Morris of New York; several great-nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, in Bank Street Memorial Baptist Church, Norfolk, with Dr. Calvin Butts, pastor of the Abyssinian Baptist Church, New York City, officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery , Norfolk. Viewing will be at the church one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel of the William N. Bland & Son Funeral Home, Petersburg. On Thursday, the body will be transported to Metropolitan Funeral Service, Norfolk, where viewing will be from noon until the day of the funeral service. William M.
