Hunter, who died Sunday, September 5, in the 94th year of her life, took place from the residence of her daughter, Mrs. V. F. Sheppard, of 826 Lexington avenue,Tuesday, September 7, at 1:30 o’clock. Rev. F. D. Nance assisted by Rev. Mr. Hoskins, and Rev. Mr. Thomason, officiated. The pallbearers were: Mr. George Collette, Mr. George Foreman, Mr. A. G. Alston, Mr. B. B. Whitehurst, Mr. J. R. Dungee and Mr. Edw. Irby. In the death of Mrs. Hunter, Norfolk loses, perhaps, one of its oldest citizens. Born in Gates County, NC, she came to Norfolk at an early age and since that time has made her home in Norfolk, Portsmouth and vicinity. She was one of the first members baptized into the Shoulder’s Hill Baptist Church, after the Civil War. She remained a member there until her death. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. V. F. Sheppard of this city; one son, Rev. T. P. Wilson, of Philadelphia, seventeen grandchildren and great greanchildren, among whom are numbered, Mr. L Sheppard of Newark,NJ; Mrs. L. W. Wilhoite of Durham NC; Mrs. W. R. Brown of Hampton Institute; Dr. S. A. Sheppard of Cape Charles and Mrs. U. S. Colding and Miss C. V. Sheppard, of this city.
