Norfolk Virginian Pilot Saturday September 26, 1936


Elkanah Lee Hurd, aged 74, died at his residence, 535 West Twenty-Sixth 
Street, yesterday morning at 2 o’clock. He is survived by a son P. I. Hurd; 
a stepson, R. H. Hurd, both of Norfolk; two brothers. T. J. Hurd, of Elkton, 
and Millard Hurd, of Martinsville; three sisters, Mrs. Everette J. Davis and 
Mrs. Mary B. Davis, both of Martinsville. And Mrs. Thomas Davis, of 
Wheeling, W. Va., and eight grandchildren; Mr. Hurd was a native of Henry 
County and had been a resident of Norfolk for 40 years. He was in the employ 
of the Coca-Cola Company for 35 years, until his retirement two years ago. 
Funeral services will be conducted at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home Sunday 
afternoon at 3:30 o’clock. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
